Welcome to Dicky Bees Fish & Chips

4 Mitford St, Filey YO14 9DY, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked away at 4 Mitford St, Filey YO14 9DY, Dicky Bees Fish & Chips is one of those spots you stumble upon and instantly feel glad you did. It’s a classic fish and chips takeaway, but there’s something about the atmosphere and the food that makes it stand out from the usual seaside options. The setting is casual and welcoming, perfect for a quick bite during a day exploring Filey or a relaxed lunch with friends.

From the moment you glance at the menu, it’s clear that this place focuses on doing the basics really well. The fish and chips are the obvious highlight, and rightly so. The fish is cooked to a crisp golden finish, while the chips are hearty and satisfying without feeling too heavy. Pair it with their curry sauce, and you’ve got a combination that hits all the right notes-rich, slightly spicy, and incredibly comforting.

What surprised me, though, was the variety. The tempura offers a lighter, crispier alternative that still delivers plenty of flavor. Then there’s the pattie and chips, which feels like a proper local favorite-simple, filling, and perfect for a laid-back meal. If you’re after something handheld, the fish sandwich is a great choice, especially when you’re on the move. And for those who like to round things off with a drink, grabbing a beer alongside your meal just completes the experience.

The service style is exactly what you’d expect from a takeaway, but with a friendly edge. It’s quick and efficient, yet you never feel rushed. The place attracts a mix of tourists and locals, which always says a lot about consistency and quality. Even better, they accept reservations, which can be handy during busier times.

In terms of overall experience, Dicky Bees Fish & Chips keeps things straightforward but gets the essentials spot on. The location is convenient, the reviews you hear from others are consistently positive, and the food delivers that satisfying, no-fuss comfort you want from a proper fish and chips spot. It’s the kind of place you’d happily return to without overthinking it.

What customers say?

“ Dicky Bees fish & chip shop is a traditional fish shop. There is a wide variety of options on the menu and a separate child's menu. The haddock was cooked to perfection and one of the thickest pieces of fish I have had in a long time, and I couldn't fault the chips. There are all the usual extras curry sauce mushy peas gravy on the also do a really nice Yorkshire fish cake with large pieces of fish in it. The prices are very reasonable and the service was very quick, the staff are very friendly, and the place is spotlessly clean. I will definitely call in again thenext time I am in filey . ”

“ Take away: Fish and chips are very good though the chips can be a bit hard. If you like good fish & chips in Filey, come here - much better than some of the other places. ”

- Mark Hughes -

“ Great fish n chips used more by locals as not in the town centre. Large portions and very tasty. Cooked traditionally. I would highly recommend. Staff are friendly. ”

- Debbie Jay -

“ Bought fish and chips here regularly over the years. Really nice tasty Haddock and chips - Thanks again. Note to the chap frying the fish etc. Don’t be so curt with your customers when they are placing orders for food. A perceived poor attitude can turn customers away, which would be a real shame. See you again very soon. ”

“ Best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. I ordered a small fish and chips as I was due to go for a curry in a couple of hours. The fish was pure white, very fresh and glistening with moisture, having been steamed in its crisp light batter coating. The chips were soft and brown not crispy and tasted slightly sweet for being fried in beef dripping. If I lived in Filey, it would be once a week for me. ”
